A must read is "Jesus Before Christianity," by scholar Albert Nolan. Nolan is among others like Tolstoy, Gandhi and others that WORSHIPED Jesus for his in-this-life truth, the way a physicist might worship Einstein.
Nolan is clear that Jesus was an apocalyptic. The world didn't end? For the Jews it did, within 40 years - their civilization was entirely destroyed - Holocaust.
He died the Save them. They ignored Him.
He died to Save us. We ignore Him.
How much longer?
