"Start, why are you so NOT-PLEASANT?!?!" 

At a raging fire is a firefighter pleasant?
Of course not.  In fact, if one stopped for pleasantries
with the onlookers they'd be fired, right?

Well, as God is my witness, that is what is going on with Start.
I see train wrecks, car crashes, attack victims, abuse victims,
starving children, dying children... all around me, ALL THE TIME.
I don't ever NOT SEE THEM.  I AM NEVER NOT TRYING TO SAVE
THEM.

Others don't see them - they can't, won't or simply care not to,
except when it is convenient.
I don't interfere with the onlookers, or avoiders, or pretenders.
NOR DO I ENABLE THEM. 
NOR DO I ALLOW THEM TO DISTRACT ME.
NOR DO I PARTICIPATE IN THEIR DENIAL, AVOIDANCE, FANTASY...
NOR DO I STOP FOR PLEASANTRIES WITH THEM.

Not those I encounter in DC.
Not those I encounter online, all day long.

AND SOMETIMES I'LL A BIT ROUGHLY PUSH THEM OUT OF THE WAY
OF MY WORK.  IF IT WERE YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE, IF IT WERE YOUR
FAMILY IN PERIL, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD DEMAND OF ME.  BUT
FOR MOST OF YOU, YOU DON'T SEE THAT IT IS.

I ASK NO ONE TO TOLERATE ME.

I ASK NO ONE TO PUT UP WITH ME.

I INSIST ON BASIC CIVILITY OF MYSELF TO EVERYONE, BUT I WILL
NOT ALLOW MY WORK TO BE DISRUPTED, OR INTERFERED WITH.

I EXPECT NO ONE TO PUT UP WITH ME. I FIGHT ALONE AS LONG AS NECESSARY.
I'LL FIGHT WITHOUT ANY AND ALL RESOURCES IF OTHERS CHOOSE TO SUPPLY NONE,
OR TO TAKE AWAY WHAT I HAVE.

I ALWAYS LEAVE WHEN ASKED, OR WHEN I SEE THAT THE FIREFIGHTING
FOCUS OF THIS OLD GUY IS NOT WELCOME.

THE ABOVE ABOUT ME WILL CHANGE - IT WILL GET WORSE.
