That Gandhi emphasized over and over and over and...
that "Truth is God," and, 'Truth is the one thing worth
instantly giving one's life for.' This has slightly mystified me. 
I mean, at some level his maniacal emphasis on Truth
made sense, but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CENTRAL?????

This afternoon, finally, I get it.  The saying above.

There are some Truths that are so painful, so hurtful, so
disruptive of our "lives" that we develop ferocious
psychological DEFENSE mechanisms to shield ourselves from them,
right?  For most of us there is actually very little by way
of unpleasant truth we are open to hearing, seeing, feeling,
knowing....

EXCEPT, WE TURN THESE DEFENSES OFF WHEN THE VERY LIVES
OF OUR DEAREST LOVED ONES ARE AT STAKE, RIGHT?!?!  What,
when a dad's child's life is at stake is a Truth too painful to
hear?  There is no such thing, right?  HE WANTS,HE FIERCELY
DEMANDS THE TRUTH, ESPECIALLY THE MOST HURTFUL TRUTH,
IF IT MEANS THE LIFE OF HIS CHILD, RIGHT?!??!!?

He "lost it!!!" Gandhi's all-time hero just, um, LOST IT! :-|

According to the internationally recognized group of elite, non-believing,
academic, forensic/historical, international scholars known as The Jesus Seminar, the
lives of most in Jesus day were tortured beyond anything known on planet
earth today. As impossible as that is to fathom, that is their massively
researched conclusion.

I grew up perceiving that Jesus was furious, but fully self possessed and
appropriately planned and scripted when he flipped the tables in the temple.
For the last decade I've realized that the "furious" part of my perception was
incorrect.  Jesus was Universal Love incarnate, in the same way Hitler was
and Dick Cheney is, Evil incarnate.  I've realized that Jesus was NEVER not
a brother to anyone, and that this was a brotherly, not "furious," not violent
act.

But just this morning I realized that Jesus "lost it!"  Just as Einstein "saw"
possibilities, likelihoods actually, in the realm of physics that most of
us STILL can't "see," Jesus "saw" that the Living Hell of most in his day could
INSTANTLY be displaced within each individual that became Universal Love
Incarnate, and that doing so en mass would likely avert the total destruction
of the Jews in Israel, that otherwise appeared certain to him, that in fact
did occur within the next 70 years. 

BUT NO ONE COULD HEAR HIM!  NO ONE COULD HEAD HIM!  TRY AS HE MIGHT,
LABOR AS HE DID, NO ONE COULD HEAR WHAT HE WAS TELLING HIM, THAT
WOULD TOTALLY AVERT THEIR INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE HELL!  And to
this day we still don't, can't, won't "hear," and now it is within months, or a few
years of being too late for us all.

He "lost it."  In the Temple, he "lost it."  As Gandhi knew, as Tolstoy saw
before him, Jesus was just a man, as Einstein was just a man.  Near perfect
in his realm in comparison to anything we've ever seen - but an imperfect,
finite man. 

Flipping the tables may have been Jesus' most powerful contribution to us -
his most penetrating wake-up call.  But it was NOT the moment that Jesus
would have been the most proud of.  It was not out of "knowing how to
respond" that he did it.  It was out of knowing A RESPONSE WAS URGENTLY
NEEDED that he expressed himself in this way - a desperate outcry, an
act of Faith that expressing the "Truth" imperfectly was more responsible,
and an infinitely better Service than repressing or delaying any expression at all. 
"The Little Dutch Boy" seeing the dike spring a leak, didn't know how to
save the town, but knew that doing nothing was death to the town.
Jesus "lost it" inside, and chose that allowing that to become manifest was more
responsible, was more Loving than the much personally safer path of keeping his
mouth shut and his hands to himself.  It got him Crucified, a fact that surely he
didn't regret, as he would have seen that this unpremeditated, spontaneous act
was among his greatest contributions to His Family.

Idle speculation?  "Start, I think you are the reincarnation of Jesus
Christ."  First said to me decades ago, who I consider the world's greatest
Peace Maker of recent times, an avowed "non-believer," has stated this to me several
times these last 3 years.  Massively humbled, and encouraged by these
words, I none the less relegated them to the realm of fancy, I suppose in part
because I am a non-believer in such things myself.  But this morning I see that what
I was being told is "a" reincarnation of Jesus.  Not "the," but "a."  Yes, it is
clear to me that I've been moving in this direction throughout my life, in
EXACTLY the same way that Pr. Obama, a life-long admirer of Abe Lincoln
clearly is becoming a reincarnation of Abe, and other life long students have
quite automatically, quite unintentionally become a "reincarnation" to
substantial degree, of the object of their life's focus.  And in doing so, the
one that moves toward being "a" "reincarnation" gains insights into
their Subject that otherwise would not be possible.  No, the thoughts
expressed above are more than idle speculation.

My Hunger Striking friend has been Hospitalized, Day 36 - Immigrtation Reform

I was worried having not heard from him since Thursday.

Today I heard from him mid day, an urgent email asking for help.
I biked across town (not real smart as the roads are unplowed
:-(  ) and spent the afternoon assisting him before racing back
for my evening shift at the White House.

Thursday night he awoke in his homeless shelter screaming in
pain - extreme muscle spasms.  They rushed him to the hospital
in an ambulance.  Against their wishes he signed himself out mid morning and
made the rounds of every Congressional and Senate office
because he has scheduled a prayer vigil in front of the White
House Tuesday and needed to make the requests Friday of
each office to attend.  He collapsed several times, but by days
end had delivered the announcement to every office.  He
expects to do the same Monday. I don't know if he will make it,
but I'll not bet against his will.

He had a major article in one of the major spanish dailies last
week and the head of the Mexican news association, is an
admirer from the days he was tortured by the Mexican
government - and this afternoon Macias and I wrote the article
they will put out tomorrow.

I don't ever NOT SEE THEM.  I AM NEVER NOT TRYING TO SAVE
THEM.

Others don't see them - they can't, won't or simply care not to,
except when it is convenient.
I don't interfere with the onlookers, or avoiders, or pretenders.
NOR DO I ENABLE THEM. 
NOR DO I ALLOW THEM TO DISTRACT ME.
NOR DO I PARTICIPATE IN THEIR DENIAL, AVOIDANCE, FANTASY...
NOR DO I STOP FOR PLEASANTRIES WITH THEM.

Not those I encounter in DC.
Not those I encounter online, all day long.

AND SOMETIMES I'LL A BIT ROUGHLY PUSH THEM OUT OF THE WAY
OF MY WORK.  IF IT WERE YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE, IF IT WERE YOUR
FAMILY IN PERIL, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WOULD DEMAND OF ME.  BUT
FOR MOST OF YOU, YOU DON'T SEE THAT IT IS.

ps:  My conviction also comes from lifelong practice and study of
just this issue, as a psychologist, enterprise leader, change agent,

We lived on the edge of a many thousand acre nature preserve.
Unspeakably idyllic.

After a storm one day, 5 year old (?) Start was in the woods, heard
a rustle in the leaves, and found a baby robin that had blown out
of its nest.  Robbie.  All the science known at the time apparently said
that a baby robin would die away from its mother.  We did not find
the nest.  A shoebox is what we found and I brought Robbie home, and
it thrived, and when we taught it to fly, it came when we called,
and we'd dig worms for Robbie for supper.

Almost everyone in this most affluent of towns I grew up in was,
hmmmmm, afraid of, or put off by my dad.  He was dour, profoundly
intense, entirely reserved, zero small talk, entirely focused.  Yet
he was a teacher's teacher, literally, and in addition to the affluent
students that paid handsomely for him to teach them piano,
teachers from around the country flocked to our home, with his studio
attached, to learn his teaching methods.

During his fall session, studio packed with teachers, alone working
with them, on a brief break he became aware of noise downstairs and
investigated.  Robbie had flown down the chimney flue, entered the
furnace flue and was in the furnace.  It had not yet ignited.

My dad was as smart, self reliant, clever as they come.  I never asked
why there wasn't some other way, but if there were, he'd have
taken it.  Now mind you, he worked from dawn till bed time, earning
money to please my mom's exorbitant tastes, and to provide what he
wanted us kids to have.  And, he did this 7 days per week, 365 days per
year.  Oh, we'd take a 1-4 week family vacation - but he felt we couldn't
afford for him to come, he'd stay, and teach, from dawn, till bedtime.  I
recall only a few exceptions.  Money, for us to have it, was real, real,
important to him - every penny.

He took an axe to the furnace, destroying it, frantically trying to save that
bird, that hadn't cost us a cent.  Robbie.  Must have taken him
weeks of work, or more, to pay for the replacement.  He never gave it a
thought.  The bird's Life is what he valued.  Still makes me
weep.  That's what his Love was, for the world, for us all.

Duct tape is keeping my pants belt functional (so far). Point?
I spend nothing on myself.

I'm looking for sympathy?  If you don't deeply envy me my life,
I'm continuing to fail you.  Sorry.  I owe a debt of millions,
literally, to my global poor family - that unknowingly I squandered
on myself till recently.

All that I own I'm donating to these folks (below).  During the warmer
months occasionally school kids throw a buck or change into
a donation pot at the Vigil, and by tradition the vigiller takes that
to support themselves in their work.  I don't by coffee, or ANYTHING with it.
I save it for my work, or, the work of real heroes, in the hopes
they would emerge, in a time of need. 

All that I've accumulated these last few years I'm donating.
